Many people wouldn't think of camping as a way to celebrate mother's day. But it can be a great way to make mom feel special and help her relax, at least if you camp like my wife! After I quickly installed the XM radio I purchased her for Mother's Day (which was a big hit, although she couldn't understand how it kept changing to a particular baseball game!) we headed down to The Broadmoor.
The Broadmoor is a five star resort here in Colorado. Next to a lake, with Pikes Peak as the background, its an amazing 'camping' destination. We were only there for one night and half of today, but it was a great way to pamper mom. A great dinner last night, a spa appointment today, and a great quick trip overall.
I even found time to work in some more 'authentic' outdoor experiences. I took my youngest son to go explore the Manitou Cliff Dwellings. It was a great morning of crawling about through the 'houses' and talking to him about how people used to live. He really enjoyed being able to go into the various rooms, walking through the back pathways between buildings, etc. The craftsmanship in the buildings was amazing. As you walked through them, they reflected the advancing architecture and building skills of each time period. What was also apparent was what a difficult life it must have been. It was apparent that most of each day was spent working on mere survival, and the dwellings were built to allow for that and not much else. This was a relatively small group of dwellings, I can't imagine what Mesa Verde must be like! Maybe when the kids are older, we can head down and check that out too. Probably not for mother's day though!

I spent my Mother's Day outdoors, too, and I'd have to say it was one of the best yet. Looks like you did quite nicely!
