Thanks for stopping by. We created CEJCamping to help ourselves remember some of the great trips that we've taken over the last decade-and-a-half. In the course of talking about the gathering of knowledge, we realized that there is a lot we have to say. Take a minute to look around. Hopefully you'll find enough interesting things that you'll come back for more!
Looking for data and information on local trails? Or maybe your heading out on a vacation and want to find a nearby trail to hit while there? Sure, you can do a Google search, scan through the results, or maybe even read through some of them. But, maybe there's a better way. While aimlessly wondering around the net this evening, I somehow found myself on a site that has a terrific table full of data on hiking trails.
The site is called Factual. Simply put, it seeks to allow users to create their own 'open data model' that can be shared, edited, and added to by others. Their tagline is simply 'Making Data Accountable'. Being a fan of data, and more specifically, its easily usable manifestation in visual formats, I was intrigued right off the bat. While looking around the site, I noticed a link on the left that simply said: 'Hiking Trails'. Instantly curious, I clicked and found myself gazing at what looked to be a thorough listing of a ton of hiking trails, each one containing a ton of data about it.
The best part is that you can filter the table down based on your own specifications. I quickly added a filter that brought it down to my state and then sorted alphabetically by city and looked around for some local trails. It seems a little limited to date, but hopefully it will grow as it seems like a useful tool. It should be noted that the data sour is from TrailHeadFinder.
To make it easy to see and play with, I have embedded the Factual Hiking Trail table here:
