This is one of my personal favorites. Won't work over an open fire... you'll need a griddle or pan. You will also need a cup with a thin rim, or something similar (like a round cookie cutter).
- Ingredients:
- One egg
- One slice of bread
- Butter (or margarine)
Pre-heat the skillet. While that's warming up, butter both sides of the bread. Put the buttered bread on the skillet. Immediately cut a hole in the bread with the cup and remove the center piece. Crack the egg into the hole in the center of the bread. Cook until the egg is done, turning once. Make sure to also cook the extra piece of bread!
Serve immediately. If you leave the yolk liquid, you can dip the extra piece of toast!

I've also seen it (but haven't tried it) done with a bagel. Makes sense, as the hole is already in it. However, you lose the "dunker" which I am a big fan of.
