The overall experience of camping isn't necessarily about location, gear or food.  It's about how you occupy your time while enjoying the outdoors.  There have been articles about recipes, books and locations posted here and many other websites across the 'net.  I have read and reread these articles, which I find entertaining and informative.  So, when encouraged by the other members of CEJ camping to create "something like a top 10 list", I decided to go with something "obscure".  I chose to go with a list of songs we have sung at one time or another during the late night campfies.  Maybe obscure isn't the correct term to describe my list, but I had a lot of fun creating it and hope you all enjoy.  The topic is broad enough for anybody to weigh in with their opinions, which is what I'm going for.  So, light up a long nine (I've always wanted to say that :-), and let's see what you think.

The CEJ 10 Favorite Non-Traditional Campfire Songs:

1.  The Spongebob Squarepants Themesong:  Who doesn't know the words to this one!

2.  Free Bird, Lynyrd Skynyrd:  Classic.  Occupies a lot of time, especially if you jam along with your air guitar.

3.  We Will Rock You/We are the Champions, Queen:  Basically anything by Queen works.

4.  Lunch Lady Land, Adam Sandler:  So what if we only repeat "Sloppy Joe" over and over.

5.  Every Rose Has Its Thorn, Poison:  What goes better with camping?  Hair Metal!

6.  The Hustle: I can't remember the artist, but yes it's the Disco song from the 70's.  No words required.

7.  Musta Got Lost, J Geils Band:  The live version with the intro, "Reputa, the Beauta!"

*side note: Marc, I want my CD back

8.  You've Lost that Loving Feeling, the Righteous Brothers:  Kinda weird singing with 4 other dudes, but everybody sings.

9.  If I had $ 1,000,000.00, Barenaked Ladies:  Sucks if only 1 person knows the words!

10.  Fruit Salad, The Wiggles:  We all have kids, and the Wiggles still rock.  Plus, it's easy to sing if you're put on the spot for a request.

Just missed the list:  Any Guns and Roses; Kumbaya; The Rodeo Song (oh, it's 40 below and I don't give a @*!&, got a heater in my truck, and it's off to the Rodeooooo); The Camptown Ladies (the camptown ladies????)...

OK everybody, Have at it and have fun Cool

  • Ollie  - Don't forget...

Piano Man is usually a hit. I think we should work in some Bob Marley and the Wailers this year too.

  • Eric  - Ahhhh...nice.

Piano Man should most definitely be near the top. Great call on the Marley, too. I always forget him, shame on me.
