It's no secret that I'm amazed by Ed Stafford's monumental feat of walking the entire length of the Amazon River. Now he's been nominated for National Geographic's "Adventurer of the Year."
Every story on the National Geographic nomination page is amazing, from a 17-year-old circumnavigating the globe to a rower who has solo-rowed both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. All of these are amazing people who have done amazing things. At this point in my life, I can only live vicariously through their stories. I certainly can't empathize with the mental fortitude that all of them have displayed in their adventures.
You can read all about them on the National Geographic page, and remember to vote. You know who my favorite is... one of the few people on the nomination list with a "true" first. He says himself that the Internet played a key role in the success of his expedition. Maybe a little payback is due?
