Last Friday, Cabela's Inc. (CAB), another large camping, hunting, and outdoor equipment retailer, announced their fourth quarter profits and saw their stock rise as well.

On a day when the DOW Jones Industrial Average dropped nearly 300 points, camping and hunting retailer Gander Mountain (GMTN) saw their stock rise nearly 27% on reports that their earnings will nearly triple. In a Reuter's article, they stated that while sales increased approximately 5%, reductions in inventory helped total earnings soar.

The Secretary of the Interior, Dirk Kempthorne, signed an order today officially naming the 258 million acres of land managed for multiple use by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) the "National System of Public Lands". The BLM also indicated that changing signage and designation would occur over a lengthy period of time to minimize associated costs. The official designation is intended in part to make the public more aware of the lands that belong to them. As most of the land managed by the BLM exists in the west, this may be more of an issue in the mid-west and eastern states. To read more, visit the Department of Interior official release here.
