After brunch with the extended family last weekend, the boys' Uncle invited them out for a hike in El Dorado Canyon State Park. Given that the boys are crazy about their uncle (Grandma complains that she drops off the radar when he's around!), it was a no brainer, we were in. We didn't have a lot of time, so we selected a short, easy hike. Given that one of the boys isn't a great hiker yet (read more to see the pics and guess which one), it was the perfect choice.
El Dorado is just outside of Boulder and is a popular spot for climbing (with hundreds of great routes, see if you can spot some climbers in the pictures!) and hiking. They have an outdoor pool open in the summer (complete with an old school metal slide!) and natural spring fed water in the visitor center. They have a number of good hiking trails, and the one we selected was a gentle trail, graded and ADA accessible that even had some self-guided interpretative stops. It made for an easy walk with the boys, with some natural rest stops built in at each interpretative site. We weren't out long, maybe an hour, but it was great to be outside all the same. With forecasts calling for our first snow this weekend, I also made a mental note that these trails would be great for snowshoeing. Hopefully I'll get a chance to go back soon!
