Terrible tag line notwithstanding, Smokey Bear has been a fixture in the camping world for longer than I've been alive. This year, he turns 65 and the celebration will be held in the Wayne National Forest (in Ohio). Smokey was "born" on August 9th, 1944.

To Catch A Dinner

We have had a few opportunities in years past to do some fishing on our annual camping sojourns. Prior to those trips we have talked about catching our dinner. While that is a nice goal to have it has yet to come to fruition. Until this year.

Located on Cooke Pond, Horseshoe Island is suitable for those who enjoy the peacefulness of camping. The landscape and scenery from the water or the island is breathtaking. There are plenty of spots to view sunrise/sunsets, or stare aimlessly at the stars in the night sky.
