Family Geocaching

27 October 2010

Last week, Eric over at The FamilyCampman had a great  post on 15 Reasons to Start Geocaching Today. While I had tried this once before, on our trip to Lost Lake (where we were unsuccessful in finding the cache), I hadn't given much thought to trying it with my boys. Eric's Reason 7: Awesome Bonding Opportunity with the Kids made me rethink this a little. Reason 8 is what actually helped us go out for the first time this past weekend.

Grays and Torreys Peak

20 October 2010

From here in the Front Range, sights of P1010025 the snow  capped peaks are evidence that summer, and our short lived fall, are almost over. Actually, fall this year has been tremendous. Delicious weather and gorgeous colors in the Aspens. But you can tell that is about to end  very soon. With this in mind, I decided to try and accomplish one last camping goal that I had for this season: climbing another fourteener. That's how I found myself waking up at 4:45 a.m. this past Sunday, climbing into some semi-winter gear, and heading up into the mountains to climb Grays and Torreys Peaks.

Michigan Recreation Passport

02 October 2010
October 1, 2010 marked a significant change in the way that State Park Passes are issued. Previously, you would buy a daily pass for about $6 or an annual pass for about $24 (I didn't check the numbers, I'm just working from memory). Starting this month, Michigan Recreation Passports are sold with your license plate renewal. The new cost is $10 per vehicle, or $5 for motorcycles.
