Outfit Your Kids for Less PDF Print E-mail

Anyone with kids knows that they grow. Fast. Clothes you buy in the spring may well not fit by fall. So why spend top dollar on camping clothing that, at most, will see one season of duty? Here is my selection for a great, inexpensive alternative to name brand outdoor clothing for kids.

C9 by Champion is made to offer many of the same qualities as the more expensive name brand clothing options, but at a fraction of the cost. They have a full line of options for all types of weather as well. We have purchased some of their 'technical' underwear (tights and a shirt) for our kids to wear under their soccer outfits when its cold and sleeting (which includes just about every game in the spring season!) and they work great. Here are some examples of what they offer, and some price ranges.

C9 Short Sleeve shirt. Made of 100% polyester so it wicks away moisture, this shirt also offers UV protection. It can be found in most Target stores for just under $10, but tonight I found it online ranging from $5 to $8. A shirt with similar qualities from other name brands runs at least $20, meaning you can buy at least two of these for the same price. Go ahead and get them muddy on the next camping trip, there's plenty more back at base camp!

C9 Long Sleeve shirt. Again, made of 100% polyester for moisture management and offering UV protection all for under $12. I found these online tonight for around $8.

C9 Micro Fleece for $12, although I found it online tonight for just over $4. My youngest son has one and it works great.

They also have shorts, pants, socks, hats, gloves, etc., all at great prices. Are they truly top notch in quality? Not really. I wouldn't hardly compare them to Mountain Hardware or The North Face, or even REI. But they are good, and for kids that will outgrow them, or misplace them, they work great. And who doesn't like getting new gear? At prices like this you can afford to outfit the kids and get them excited for the upcoming camping season!

is to have two kids of the same sex so they can pass clothes down. :D

If I had been rally smart I would have had them at the same time of the year.

I'm going to check out the C9 line. We try to hit the Patagonia outlet during their big sales. Then their stuff is almost the same price as regular clothes.

Our kids are close together, so we definitely pass gear down! Nothing helps get the kids excited like a new piece of camping gear though, so its nice to have some inexpensive options for buying some new things throughout the year. Hitting sales is a great way to go too, or finding outdoor consignment stores.
